Proctocolectomy: From 1 Different Sources


n. a surgical operation in which the rectum and colon are removed. In panproctocolectomy the entire rectum and colon are removed, necessitating either a permanent opening of the ileum (see ileostomy) or the construction of an *ileal pouch. This is usually performed for *ulcerative colitis.

Colectomy
