Nhs Blood And Transplant

(NHSBT) a *special health authority established in 2005 to provide a safe and reliable supply of blood, organs, stem cell services, and diagnostics to hospitals. NHSBT also provides specialist therapeutic apheresis services, which remove or replace a single component of blood (e.g. malignant white cells or low-density lipoprotein), at six sites in England.

Nhs Business Services Authority

(NHSBSA) a *special health authority formed in 2006 to provide a range of back office and financial services to NHS organizations, contractors, and patients. These include administering the NHS pension scheme, issuing European Health Insurance Cards to UK residents, and issuing penalty charge notices to patients who falsely claim to be exempt from paying prescription charges. NHSBSA also hosts NHS Prescription Services, which provides pharmacies with reimbursement for items supplied under NHS prescriptions.

(NHSCFA) a *special health authority formed in 2017 to identify, investigate, and prevent fraud, bribery, and corruption within NHS organizations in England. These functions were formerly carried out by NHS Protect, part of the *NHS Business Services Authority.

Nhs Improvement

(NHSI) 1. a non-departmental public body set up in 2016 to drive improvement within the NHS by providing oversight of foundation trusts, acute trusts, and independent providers of NHS-funded care. Among other responsibilities, it has taken on the regulatory functions of *Monitor, the trust-support functions of the *NHS Trust Development Authority, and the reporting and alerting functions formerly delivered by the *National Patient Safety Agency. 2. an organization set up in 2008 to drive clinical improvement within the NHS. In 2013 it was subsumed into a newly formed organization, NHS Improving Quality. This was itself subsumed into *NHS England in 2016.

Nhs Resolution

a *special health authority of the NHS established in 1995 and responsible for handling *negligence and other claims against NHS organizations in England. NHS Resolution also advises the NHS on human rights case law and handles equal pay claims. Until 2017 it was known as the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA).
