n. (formerly) any form of medical treatment using electricity. Interrupted galvanism is a form of *electrotherapy in which direct current, in impulses lasting for 30 to 100 milliseconds, is used to stimulate the activity of nerves or the muscles they supply. See also faradism.

Electrotherapy

n. the passage of electric currents through the body’s tissues to stimulate the functioning of nerves and the muscles that they supply.
