Epiphora: From 3 Different Sources


Inadequate drainage of tears in the eyes with the result that they ‘over?ow’ down the cheeks. The condition is caused by an abnormality of the tear ducts which drain away the normal secretions that keep the eyeball moist (see EYE).

Watering Eye

An increase in volume of the tear film, usually producing epiphora (overflow of tears). Watering may be caused by excess tear production due to emotion, conjunctival or corneal irritation, or an obstruction to the channel that drains tears from the eye.
